Le Roy was home to a dangerous chemical spill 40 years ago and the children's symptoms--facial tics and verbal outbursts--may be connected, Brockovich tells USA Today. "We don't have all the answers, but we are suspicious," Brockovich said. "They have not ruled everything out yet. The community asked us to help and this is what we do."

An Environmental Protection Agency report issued in 1999 says that the cyanide crystals were removed after the spill but 35,000 gallons of trichloroethene were absorbed into the ground.

Yeah they have also been dumping many many tons of other chemicals into rivers and rural areas.

Before you grow a garden get your soil tested.

The movie made with this ladies name shows she went on a long campaign of
trying to get all this stopped and has made a career out of suing these polluters.

This is REAL environmentalism here, not the Al Gore the whore variety.

We have rivers where the fish are being gender bent.

We have dead zones at the mouth of rivers the size of a US state.

We have giant BPA releasing plastic toxic soup the size of multiple states
in the Atlantic and the Pacific.

Erin Brockovich: Research Into Upstate New York Tourette's Case Only Preliminary


Environmental activist Erin Brockovich has corrected misinformation regarding her investigation into the medical mystery in an upstate New York town where a group of teenagers has displayed symptoms similar to Tourette syndrome, saying that her research is still preliminary.

Nearly two dozen people, including one 36-year-old, in the upstate New York village of LeRoy are now experiencing uncontrollable tics, seizures and outbursts they might have been caused by a chemical spill in the town more than 40 years ago.

In a statement released Tuesday, Brockovich said she is still investigating a plume from a 1970 train derailment in LeRoy, which dumped cyanide and trichloroethylene (TCE) -- a chlorinated hydrocarbon used to de-grease metal parts -- within three miles of the village's high school.

Environmental Protection Agency says that TCE can affect the central nervous system, and cause dizziness, headache, sleepiness, nausea, confusion, blurred vision and facial numbness. It is suspected of being inked to the symptoms among LeRoy's local teens.

Brockovich barred from investigating mystery teen neurological illness

A member of her team, Bob Bowcock, inspected ground water and soil at a nearby park for anything out of the ordinary. But whenthe team tried to collect soil samples, local police and school officials blocked their attempt by placing locks on all the entrances to the sports field until the school superintendent and a district spokesman arrived, reported NBC's Rochester, NY,station. Officials did agree to let parents, Bowcock and his team walk the grounds, without media, if they agreed to not take samples.
